NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball program welcomed back over 60 alumni and celebrated the life and legacy of late head coach Bob Hannah as the Fightin' Blue Hens defeated Conference USA foe FIU by a score of 8-3 on Saturday at Hannah Stadium.

With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improves to 16-31 and are 4-19 in CUSA play. UD extended its win streak to three games and have won five of the last seven contests.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Offensively, the Blue Hens were led by LT Cockrill and Matthew Minckler. Cockrill went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Minckler went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
The Blue Hens also had multiple RBIs from Sal Mineo and Harry Carr.
Chase Deibler earned the start on the mound. He pitched three innings, allowed no runs off one hit and struck out one batter. He was credited with the win and is now 2-3 on the season.
Doug Marose pitched four innings in relief. He allowed three earned runs off five hits and struck two batters out.
Ryan Pugh pitched the final two innings. He allowed no runs off just one hit and struck out one batter. He earned his second save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Hens got out to a quick lead with a three-run first inning. Anthony DeCesare hit a sacrifice fly to score Sam Winstt, followed by a Cockrill two-run double to right center field.
UD added to its lead in the third when Vincent Davis got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Evan Bouldin scored on the play. In the same inning, Harry Carr hit a sacrifice fly that scored DeCesare to make it a 5-0 Blue Hens lead.
Sal Mineo added to the Blue Hens lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
The Panthers responded with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. However, an RBI single from Carr, along with a Mineo RBI off a fielder's choice helped secure the win for the Blue Hens.

GAME NOTES

The Blue Hens have earned their first Conference USA series win.
Prior to the start of the game, the Delaware baseball program brought out over 60 alums on to the field and had Bruce Hannah, the son of Bob Hannah, throw out the first pitch.
