Volleyball Completes Undefeated Blue Hen Invite With Straight-Set Win Over New Haven

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball won in straight sets against New Haven (25-16, 25-23, 25-20) to finish the Blue Hen Invitational 2-0 and improve its record to 3-2 on the season. Kennedi Inman was named MVP of the tournament, while Asia Murray joined her on the All-Tournament Team.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Anna Logan Gillens tallied a match-high 16 kills and hit .323 with three blocks.
Jayda Redd had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs and hit .296.
Asia Murray had 10 kills with three blocks while hitting .368.
Kennedi Inman had 35 assists and six digs.
Thalia Yancey had a match-high 12 digs.
Emily Zgonc had seven digs.
Jayda Gray had five digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

Delaware took a 3-2 lead in the set and never trailed for the remainder, using a 5-0 run to lead 6-2 and a separate 4-0 run to go up 12-5. Redd had back-to-back kills during the second stretch.
Another 5-0 run gave Delaware an 18-9 lead. New Haven cut into the lead at 19-14, but Delaware resettled and won the set 25-16.
Inman had 10 assists in the set, with Redd having five kills and hitting .444, Murray having four kills and hitting .429, and Gillens having four kills and hitting .333. Zgonc had four digs.

SECOND SET

Gillens set the tone early in the second, picking up three kills and a block forcing a New Haven timeout with Delaware leading 6-2. Delaware upped its lead to 11-6, after back-to-back kills by Murray and Campbell.
New Haven pulled within 12-10, 16-14, 20-18, and 22-20 before tying the set at 23. Gillens' eighth kill of the set and an attack error by New Haven gave Delaware the win.
Gillens' eight kills were was the most by a Delaware player in any set this season. Inman's 16 assists were also the most by a Delaware player this season and the most in a set since Lily Rogers had 17 against Hampton in set one on Nov. 9, 2024. Yancey also had seven digs. Delaware never trailed in the second.

THIRD SET

Jayda Redd had a kill to force a UNH timeout at 10-7. New Haven scored five of the next six points to go up 12-11 and then took a 14-12 lead.
Delaware went on a 7-2 run to lead 19-16 then closed the set scoring six of the final eight points to take the match. Murray and Morgan Campbell had a block to end it.
Redd hit .571 in the set with five kills, while Gillens had four kills.

MATCH NOTES

Inman led the tournament with 75 assists and 9.38 assists per set.
Redd's 12 kills were a season-best. She also recorded her third double-double of her career.
Yancey had double-digit digs for the third time in five matches.
Murray has had at least 10 kills in four matches this season, including in three consecutive matches. In each match this weekend, she had 10 kills on 19 attempts and hit .368. '
Gillens has had double-digit kills in all five matches this season. She's the first Delaware player with at least 10 kills in five straight matches to begin the season since Lani Mason did so in the first 19 matches of 2022.
Delaware started the season 2-0 at home for the fourth time in five seasons under head coach Kimberly Lambert.
