KENNETH S. “KEN” DILL
Men’s Basketball (1978-82)
Men’s Tennis (1979-82)
The only male student-athlete in Delaware history to excel in the sports of basketball and tennis, Ken was outstanding on both courts for the Blue Hens in 1978-82.
A native of Newark, Del. (Christiana High School), Ken didn’t have to travel far to continue his outstanding athletic career. He earned seven letters at UD, playing shooting guard for Ron Rainey’s basketball teams for three seasons and excelling for UD Hall of Fame tennis head coach Roy Rylander all four years. He captained both squads as a senior and led tennis to a four-year dual mark of 50-12 and a runner-up team finish at the East Coast Conference Championships in 1979.
Ken was a two-time team MVP in tennis, his career singles record of 51-14 ranked No. 2 when he graduated, and he remains the only tennis player in school history to win three conference titles as he captured the 1981 ECC doubles championship and both the ECC singles and doubles crowns in 1982.
He was a three-year standout in basketball and compiled 557 points and 183 assists in 75 games. His career .833 free throw percentage still ranks sixth in UD history and at the time of his induction, his .511 field goal accuracy was still second best all-time among backcourt players. He earned his degree in physical therapy from Delaware in 1982.
He was the physical therapist for the Delaware Smash of World Team Tennis in 2003-08. Tennis continues to be a big part of his life as he was ranked as high as No. 60 nationally in the men’s 45 and over division and has served as head coach of the girls varsity team at Wilmington Friends School since 2002. At the time of his induction into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame, Ken still competed in basketball and has won several national medals as part of Senior Olympics.
