Bri Hutchen arrived in Newark ahead of the 2022-23 season and currently serves as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the Blue Hens. Hutchen concluded her third season with the Blue Hens this past 2024-25 campaign.
In 2024-25, Hutchen helped lead the Blue Hens to a 13-17 record and a CAA Tournament victory over UNCW in the second round. UD set a new single-season record for made threes as a team with 206, while Ella Wanzer led the CAA in three-point shooting at 38-percent. Wanzer made the second-most threes in a single-season by a Blue Hen (68), surpassing WNBA legend Elena Delle Donne. The Blue Hens led the CAA in three-point percentage (36-percent) and field-goal percentage (41-percent). Delaware went on a six-game winning-streak in February, the longest under head coach Sarah Jenkins. In a season where the team battled injury and adversity, captain Tara Cousins earned All-CAA Second Team.
In year two, Hutchen assisted the Blue Hen 2023-24 squad to a second round appearance at the CAA tournament along with freshman center Ande'a Cherisier walking away with a CAA All-Rookie nod. For the second-straight year, the Blue Hens were on an offensive tear as the team ranked third in the league averaging 67.4 points, totaled 80-plus points in four difference contests and had nine 70-plus point performances during the campaign. The Blue Hens also led the conference in attendance, averaging 1,297.0 fans per game.
The 2022-23 season saw the Blue Hens finish with 16-14 overall record, 9-9 in CAA play and second round appearance in the conference tournament. Hutchen assisted in the guidance of a spectacular season from third-team all-conference selection in Klarke Sconiers and having SAAC President Tara Cousin take home the league's most prestigious honor, the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award. The Blue Hens first year squad finished the tough non-conference schedule posting a 7-4 record, highlighted by capturing a B1G win over Illinois (Nov. 26), which marked the third time in three seasons that Delaware walked away with a win over a Power 5 school. The Blue Hens were an offensive threat as averaged 66.0 points, logged 80-plus points in three different contests and had seven 70-plus point performances this season. Most recently, Hutchen, was named one of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 honorees for the 2022-23 season (Mar. 20).
Hutchen spent a season season at George Washington University (2021-22) and three seasons (2018-21) at Stony Brook serving under head coach Caroline McCombs as an assistant coach.
With the Seawolves, Hutchen helped lead the program to a 66-17 overall record while hoisting up the 2020 America East Regular Season Championship and the 2021 America East Tournament Championship earning the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament appearance. She assisted in the development of seven all-America East honorees and during the 2018-19 season, the Seawolves broke two program records in single-season 3-pointers and assists and earned its first victory over a Power Five opponent. Hutchen also served as the program's liaison for the Black Student-Athlete Huddle Committee.
Prior to Stony Brook, Hutchen spent three seasons on staff at Iona College (2015-18) serving in the capacity of director of operations for two years before being promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season. During her tenure, Hutchen assisted with practice and scouting, film breakdown, recruiting and camp coordination.
The native of Baltimore, Md. played collegiately at the University of Alabama. In 91 games played, Hutchen averaged 4.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while connecting on 154 career field goals. As a senior, Hutchen recorded five double-digit scoring games and five contests with 10-or-more rebounds. Hutchen was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times and was a member of the Alabama Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Athletes in Action. In June 2015, she attended the NCAA Career In Sports Forum in Indianapolis. The four-day event provided college athletes with a broader scope of career tracks available within the sports industry. The forum allowed student-athletes interactive experiences with successful individuals in the sports business and a peek into their day-to-day duties and responsibilities.
Hutchen earned both a Bachelor's degree in communications and a Master's in human environmental science from Alabama. She is the developer of U.S.E. Basketball, a mentoring program based out of the DMV area giving young girls the opportunity to connect with people from a familiar background and help set and achieve life goals.
Hutchen has a daughter, Charlee.
