Corrine Drost concluded her second season as an assistant coach at her alma mater during the 2016 season after her hiring in July 2014.
Since joining the Blue Hens sideline, Delaware has posted back-to-back 11-win seasons, the most since Drost’s freshman campaign in 2008.
Drost has helped giude the team’s offense, which has posted 264 and 273 points, respectively, during the past two seasons. In 2015, the Hens ranked 19th in the NCAA Division I rankings for scoring margin at 3.89 goals per game, the largest since 1998 while the 2016 squad was 18th nationally with a scoring margin of 3.24.
She has also been instrumental in developing junior attacker Jamie Schwartz, who is a two-time All-CAA Second Team honoree and the team’s active career leader with 89 points, 50 goals and 39 assists heading into her senior season in 2017.
The Blue Hens kicked off 2015 with fireworks by defeating No. 16 Georgetown, 17-5, in the opener before exploding for a 22-2 victory at Lafayette. Delaware also defeated No. 11 Princeton, 12-10, on the road to collect two wins over nationally ranked opponents for the first time since 2005. The Hens received their own votes on the IWLCA Division I Weekly Poll throughout the majority of the season and were ranked as high as No. 19 in mid-March.
Her responsibilities also involved training the team’s goalies, including senior Alex Zaugra, whose performance helped lead the defensive unit to a No. 4 ranking nationally in scoring defense. Zaugra was also crucial in the team’s upset over Princeton.
Off of the field, Drost is the coordinator of the program’s alumnae board, which was established in 2010. The primary focus of the board is to maintain positive communications, engagement, development and networking with the alumnae and friends of the program. The 2015 season saw the team bring in the highest game-day attendance in the conference, set record sales with the varsity online store while growing the Delaware lacrosse brand and elevating both the participation and giving at the fourth annual women’s lacrosse reception.
Drost rejoined Delaware after serving two seasons in the same role at Lafayette College. Previously, she spent the 2012 slate as a volunteer assistant coach with head coach Kateri Linville and the Blue Hens.
In her two years at Lafayette, Drost recruited and coached academically driven student-athletes in the Mid-Atlantic region. She made an immediate impact on the program as she helped guide the Leopards to a Patriot League Tournament appearance in 2013, concluding one of the program’s best seasons in recent history.
A four-time letterwinner and three-year starter for the Blue Hens from 2008 to 2011, Drost was a team captain her senior season. Over the course of her career, Drost improved her season goal total each year, including posting a career-best 30 in 2011 to finish with 70 for her tenure.
Playing both the midfield and attack positions, Drost snagged 52 draw controls as well as collecting 44 groundballs. During her career, Delaware made back-to-back appearances in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, finishing as the league’s runner-up in 2009.
Drost earned the team’s Janet Smith “Grit Award,” named for the long-time Blue Hens head coach, who led Delaware from 1980-89 and collected three national championships.
A native of Parkton, Md., Drost was a two-sport standout at Hereford High School in Baltimore County. She graduated in May 2011 from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in human services.
