Frimpong Reels in a Pair of Weekly Honors; CAA Co-Player Included (Oct. 24, 2011)

NEWARK, Del. -- After guiding the Blue Hens to a 2-0 week, University of Delaware men's soccer senior Evans Frimpong has earned a pair of weekly honors.
The speedy senior forward was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week as well as being selected as a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer.
James Madison goalkeeper Justin Epperson joined Frimpong, who earns the league honors for the first time in his career. Frimpong was among 11 other CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers named this week.
Also named CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers were Charlie Rugg (Boston College), Chip Sanders (Davidson), Tommy Muller (Georgetown), Luke Goodnetter (Green Bay), Daniel Simpson (James Madison), Layth Masri (Northwestern), Marc Cinton (Providence), Brenton Griffiths (South Flordia), Caesar Diaz Pizarro (UC Riverside), Kyle Renfro (Virginia Tech) and CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Player of the Week Kevin Schulte (UC Davis).
Frimpong, a native of Accra, Ghana, posted both of Delaware's goals in a 2-0 win over William & Mary on Saturday night, helping Delaware beat the Tribe for the first time in Newark. It marked the Hens' first victory over William & Mary since 2006.
Earlier in the week, Frimpong tallied the game-winning assist against George Mason, feeding fellow senior Kyle Ellis in Delaware's fourth-straight overtime game for the win.
Frimpong, who was named to the All-CAA Preseason team, has been a force at home in league game, scoring six of his 11 goals during CAA action. After his multi-goal effort on Saturday, his fifth of the season, Frimpong became Delaware's first double-digit goal scorer since Sobhan Tadjalli in 2004.
With his 11 goals this season, Frimpong has helped lead one of the most potent offenses not only in the CAA, but the nation as well. Through this weekend's games, Delaware averages 2.14 goals per game, good enough for third in the league. As of last week's NCAA statistical rankings, Delaware held down the No. 11 spot out of 200 NCAA Division I teams while Frimpong was ranked No. 18 on the individuals list.
Individually within in the CAA, Frimpong is the league's second leading point-getter with 26, stemming from 11 goals and four assists. He has tallied the most points for a UD individual since Ian Hennessy became the head coach in 2006 and has the most since John Petito posted 35 points (14g, 7a) in 1982.
Delaware, which improved to 10-3-1 overall and 5-3-0 this seaon, concluded its home conference schedule with the Saturday night shutout. Over the last two seasons, the Hens have gone 10-1-0 in the friendly confines of Delaware Mini-Stadium during CAA action.
The Hens return to action on Wednesday when they take on local rival Towson University. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Towson Center Soccer Complex.
