University of Delaware Women's Cross Country Places Fifth at Colonial Athletic Association Championships

HAMPTON, Ga. -- The University of Delaware women's cross country improved two spots from last season as the Blue Hens posted a fifth place team finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the Nash Farm Battlefield.
Led by a 16th place finish from sophomore Lindsay Prettyman (at right), the Blue Hens earned 149 total points to place fifth overall, just edging UNCW. James Madison won its second straight team title with 32 points followed by William & Mary, Georgia State, Towson, Delaware, UNCW, George Mason, Northeastern, Hofstra, and Virginia Commonwealth in the 10-team field.
William & Mary won its 12th straight men's title thanks to placing four runners in the top six finishers. Northeastern's Eric Jenkins won the individual title.
Prettyman covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:09 to finish 16th and lead the Blue Hens, improving 42 spots from her 58th place finish as a freshman in 2010. She has now led the Blue Hens in five of the six meets this season. Her 16th place finish was the best for a Hen runner since Julia Somers finished 15th in 2009.
Freshman Katrina Steenkamer was the Hens' second finish as she placed 27th overall in a time of 23:37. Ali Lambert was 34th in 24:00, Meredith Steenkamer was 35th in a clocking of 24:00, Alyssa Kennedy was 37th in 24:03, Nicole Daly was 40th in 24:10, and Sophie Kauffman was 42nd in 24:13.
Delaware's fifth place finish bettered last season's seventh place finish and was the Hens' best finish since a fourth place showing in 2009. The Hens have averaged a fifth place finish during their 11 seasons in the CAA.
The Blue Hen women, led by fourth-year head coach Jim Fischer, will continue action Nov. 12 when they head to Maryland-Eastern Shore for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.
