Pickard helped Delaware to a 2-0 week, knocking off Northeastern University of Hofstra University, both of which were ranked in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll last week. The Hens, now 6-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the CAA, defeated the Huskies 3-0 and edged out Hofstra 3-2 on Sunday.
Pickard finished the week with six points, including a one goal, two assist effort on Sunday against Hofstra, having a hand in each goal as Delaware snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Pride and was head coach Scott Grzenda's 200th career win. She converted her first penalty kick of the year on Wednesday at Northeastern.
Pickard's pair of helpers against Northeastern were part of a come-from-behind effort by the Hens. After letting up two straight goals and falling back 2-1, Pickard found sophomore Chelsea Duffy for the equalizer, followed by the eventual game-winner to Ali Miller.
The Lancaster, Pa. (Lancaster Catholic) native has 14 points on the season, stemming from a balanced five goals and four assists. The fifth-year senior, who missed 2009 with an ankle injury, is having one of the finest seasons of her career, bested only by her rookie campaign in 2007 in which she had 19 points (8g, 3a) while posting a career-high in the assist column this season.
Pickard's offensive prowess has come on strong later in the season, as has at least one point in five of the last six games. Delaware is 5-1 in its last six games with the only loss in the span was 2-1 in overtime against Georgia State, a game in which Pickard did not tally a point.
The senior forward was named Co-Player of the Week with William & Mary's Mallory Schaffer. Christin Granados from VCU was named the league's Rookie of the Week.
Delaware, which was tied for No. 10 in this week's NSCAA/adidas Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings, heads to Virginia for its next two games. The Hens will face Old Dominion University on Friday, Oct. 7, followed by a match with William & Mary on Sunday, Oct. 9. The kickoffs are set for 7 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
