Blue Hen Junior Elena Delle Donne Earns CAA, College Sports Madness Player of the Week Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior Elena Delle Donne earned Colonial Athletic Association and College Sports Madness Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday following her 33-point performance in the Blue Hens' season-opening 89-53 win over Rhode Island on Friday.
Delle Donne, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year and an Associated Press Preseason All-American, posted the 17th 30-point game of her career while also adding six rebounds, a block and a steal. The win was the Blue Hens' eighth consecutive triumph in a season opener and was also their eighth straight home opening victory.
Delle Donne went 12 of 17 from the field including 3 of 4 from behind the arc, and drained all six of her free throw attempts. She had 28 points during the first half as the Blue Hens exploded to a 51-20 advantage at the intermission.
Delle Donne, who was named to the Preseason Wade National Player of the Year Watch List and Preseason John Wooden Top 30 List, earned the eighth CAA Player of the Week award for her career. She shared weekly honors with Janine Aldridge of William & Mary, while Ashley Betz-White of Old Dominion earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
Delle Donne and the Blue Hens remain home Thursday when Delaware hosts 11th-ranked Penn State at the Carpenter Center at 7 p.m.
