University of Delaware Women's Basketball Team Earns Two Votes in Associated Press Top 25 Poll

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team picked up a second vote in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll released Monday, following the Blue Hens' 89-53 season-opening win over Rhode Island.
The Blue Hens, who earned a single vote in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll, jumped out to a 51-20 halftime lead over the Rams during Friday's opener and cruised to the 36-point victory. Elena Delle Donne led the Blue Hens with 33 points, including 28 in the first half, while Trumae Lucas added 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field. Delle Donne and Sarah Acker tied for the team lead with six rebounds, while Kayla Miller dished out a team-high six assists.
Delaware is the only Colonial Athletic Association team in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll. Baylor remained in the top spot, followed by Notre Dame, Tennessee, Connecticut, and Stanford. Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), Duke, Louisville and Maryland rounded out the top 10. Penn State, which visits the Carpenter Center on Thursday to take on the Blue Hens, is ranked No. 11 in this week's poll.
