Pickard, Miller Earn First-Team Honors, Duffy, Domingos on Third (Nov. 2, 2011)

The honors were announced at the league's annual banquet Wednesday night. Delaware will take on No. 5 seed Hofstra in the CAA quarterfinals Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at William & Mary.
Senior Amy Pickard and junior Ali Miller, both forwards for the Blue Hens, were named first team All-CAA, while junior Tania Dominigos and sophomore Chelsea Duffy landed on the third team.
The conference's head coaches selected the teams. Mallory Schaeffer was named the CAA Player of the Year after guiding William & Mary to a No. 1 seed in the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan CAA Championships.
VCU's Karol Sanchez was named the Defensive Player of the Year while teammate Cristin Granados earned Rookie of the Year plaudits. William & Mary's head coach John Daly and VCU's Co-Head Coaches Tiffany Roberts-Sahaydick and Tim Sahaydick were tabbed Co-Coaches of the Year.
Pickard enjoys her second selection to the All-CAA team after having the best season of her career.
The Lancaster, Pa. native, who was named second team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie her freshman season, led Delaware's scoring efforts this season, tallying 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists. Three of Pickard's goals were game-winners while she also went 1-1 in penalty kicks.
The fifth-year senior, who missed all of 2009 after suffering a near career-ending injury in 2008, was an efficient shooter, putting 21 of her 37 total shots on goal (56.8 percent).
Following the conclusion of the regular season, Pickard was ranked third in the CAA in points per game, averaging 1.42 per contest. She was twice named the CAA Player of the Week while earning a spot on the Soccer America National Team of the Week on Oct. 5.
A senior captain, Pickard scored her 10 goals in eight games for Delaware, enjoying a three-game scoring streak, all during conference games.
Miller, a native of Sinking Spring, Pa., was Delaware's leading goal-getter this season, entering the tournament with 12 goals.
She was ranked fourth in the conference in points per game, averaging 1.37 per contest. While it took Miller six games to tally her 12 goals, she was a force down the stretch for Delaware, which went 6-1-2 in games that Miller tallied a goal, including 3-0-0 in her multi-goal games.
Miller finished the regular season as the conference's top shooter, taking 79 attempts and averaging 4.16 per game. She put a team-best 47 shots on goal, putting 59.5 percent of her total shots on the mark.
Miller is just two goals from tying Delaware's single-season goals record of 14, currently held by Kristy Hendrickson during the 1994 season. Pickard and Miller are among the most potent scoring duos in Delaware history, becoming the first pair to tally 25-plus points since 1995 when Beth Gregory and Beth Hatt managed the feat. The two accounted for 64 percent of Delaware's total offense while concluding the regular season as the top scoring pair in the conference.
Domingos, a native of Sandy Hook, Conn., earns her second career All-CAA honors after being named to the All-Rookie team in 2009.
One of Delaware's most versatile players, Domingos played in all 19 games for Delaware, including 17 starts. Her games played matched a career-high while she made 18 starts.
This season, Domingos tallied one goal and chipped in three assists for five points, doubling her career total. She tallied 28 shots, including 15 shots on goal.
Earning her second consecutive All-CAA plaudits after she was tabbed All-Rookie a year a go, Duffy finished the regular season as the Hens' third leading scorer, putting away four goals with three assists for 11 points.
The 2011 season marked the first time in her career that she eclipsed the double-digit point mark, surpassing her two points a year ago. The Glassboro, N.J. native tallied two game-winning goals this season, third best on the team behind Miller and Pickard's three.
Duffy scored on half of her eight shots on goal, tallying 15 total shots.
Pickard and Miller were joined on the conference's first team by Schaeffer (William & Mary), Sanchez (VCU), Laura Greene (Hofstra), Veronica Napoli (Northeastern), Courtney Breen (Hofstra), Cortlyn Bristol (William & Mary), Kelly Matthews (Northeastern), Diana Weigel (William & Mary), and Kristin Carden (VCU).
Alongside Domingos and Duffy, the third team was comprised of Courtney Conrad (VCU), Jenna Lindsay (Drexel), Greta Samuelsdottir (Northeastern), Cheyenne Skidmore (Towson), Stephanie Rose (UNCW), Brooke Bendernagel (Hofstra), Victoria Johnson (ODU), Mary Kate Lowery (George Mason), and Paige Burnett (Northeastern).
Earning second team honors were Granados (VCU), Jewel Evans (Georgia State), Tiana Kellenberger (George Mason), Lauren Wilson (James Madison), Zania Barnum (George Mason), Lisa Bernardini (ODU), Brittany Butts (Hofstra), Emily Fredrikson (William & Mary), Elizabeth Matta (Drexel), Becky Sparks (James Madison), and Eva Badana (Drexel).
All-Rookie Team selections were Granados (VCU), Badana (Drexel), Fredrickson (William & Mary), Paige Babel (George Mason), Emory Camper (William & Mary), Maren Johansen (VCU), Shannon Rano (James Madison), Sofia Read (Towson), and Sam Scolarci (Hofstra).
Delaware, which earned the No. 4 seed with a conference record of 5-3-3 and a 9-6-4 overall mark, played its way into the six-team tournament for the first time since 2005. The Hens will square off in the quarterfinals on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. against No. 5 Hofstra. All tournament games will be played at Martin Family Stadium at Albert/Daly Field on the campus of top-seed and host, William & Mary. Admission for the tournament is $5 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 2-17). Students of competing institutions can attend the tournament for free with valid ID from their school.
The six teams will be vying for the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I tournament.
