University of Delaware Offering Winter Indoor Pole Vault and Track & Field Clinics for Youths

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware track & field program is sponsoring two clinics designed to help local youths improve their skills in all areas of running, jumping, throwing, and pole vaulting.
Blue Hen head coaches Wendy McFarlane and Jim Fischer and their staff will host two clinics - an Indoor Track & Field Clinic to be held Sunday, Jan. 15 and a pole vaulting clinic that is already underway and will continue each Monday and Wednesday evening until March 1.
The staff will include McFarlane (sprints/hurdles/relays), Fischer (distance), Larry Pratt (throws), Chris Watson (pole vault), and Terence Gadson (long jump). In addition, current members of the UD track & field teams will also assist.
The Indoor Track & Field Clinic, which is open to youths of all ages will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15 from 2-4 p.m. at the Delaware Field House. The cost is $25 for those who pre-register and $30 for those who register on-site the day of the event. Check-in wil begin at 12:45 p.m.Deadline to register online is this Friday, Jan. 13.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the sprints, distance running, jumps, rotational shot and discus followed by active participation which include various skills.
The indoor pole vault clinic is held each Monday and Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Delaware Field House and runs through March 1, 2012. The registration fee is $50 per session and $200 per month.
The clinic is designed to teach the correct way to pole vault, beginning with the fundamentals. Each participant will learn the proper way to run, plant, swing and get inverted with a focus on safety. All skill levels, male and female, including masters, are invited to participate.
