Delaware's Frimpong Selected to ECAC All-East 2nd Team (Dec. 21, 2011)

CENTERVILLE, Mass. -- University of Delaware men's soccer standout Evans Frimpong (at right) added another honor to his growing list of accolades Wednesday as he was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-East second team.
The team, made up of players from NCAA Division I schools from Maine to North Carolina, was selected by a vote of ECAC member men's soccer head coaches.
Earlier this month, Frimpong was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, first team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region, and second team NSCAA All-American. The first UD player to earn All-American honors since 1984, he also was named one of 15 finalists for the Herrmann Award presented to the top player in the country.
A two-time All-CAA selection, Frimpong helped lead Delaware to its first CAA championship and its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1970. The Blue Hens, who set a school record for wins this season with a record of 13-6-4 under Hennessy, upset perennial power Virginia, 1-0, in the first round before falling 1-0 at UCLA in the second round. UCLA went on to advance to the national semifinals before falling to eventual national champion North Carolina.
Frimpong, a native of Accra, Ghana, led the Blue Hens with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists this season. He was the first Delaware player to receive the CAA's top award. He scored two goals in a game five times during the season and his 12 goals were the seventh highest single season total in UD history. He also tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals.
Duke junior Andrew Wenger was named ECAC Player of the Year while Andrew Jean-Baptiste of Connecticut was selected ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and West Virginia forward Andrew Bevin was named ECAC Rookie of the Year.
