Delaware Cracks USA Today/ESPN Top 25 for First Time in School History; Debuts at No. 25 Spot

NEWARK, Del. -- Off to an impressive first-ever 7-0 start to the season, the University of Delaware women's basketball team continues to gain national recognition, making its way onto the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 national rankings for the first time in school history Tuesday.
The Blue Hens earned 59 points in the weekly coaches poll, making its way up to the No. 25 spot after also receiving votes the past two weeks.
Delaware moved into the spot after a 3-0 week that saw the Hens pick up an 81-70 road win at previously unbeaten Princeton on Thursday and back-to-back home victories over William & Mary and Yale Sunday and Monday.
On Monday, the Blue Hens moved up to the No. 22 spot in the Associated Press poll, a ranking in which the Hens also are making their first appearance in their 41-year history this year.
Continuing their success in the most recent polls, the Hens also moved up two places to No. 2 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll announced also announced Tuesday. Delaware received 728 votes, including one first place vote, and trails only No. 1 pick Green Bay (7-0).
Delaware, the preseason favorite to win the Colonial Athletic Association title, is the lone CAA team in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll. Baylor remained in the top spot thanks to 29 first place votes and was followed by Connecticut (2), Notre Dame, Stanford. Duke, Maryland, Tennessee, Miami, and Kentucky round out the top 10.
Delaware will look to continue it's hot start this Sunday, Dec. 11, when the Blue Hens travel to Atlantic Coast Conference foe Wake Forest for a 2 p.m. tip-off. The Hens have never defeated a current ACC opponent, falling in all 16 previous attempts, including a 63-62 setback to Wake Forest in their only meeting with the Demon Deacons on Dec. 9, 1989.
