And after a 4-0 week, the Blue Hen soccer teams each had a player named the PhillySoccerNews.com/SoccerSavings.com Player of the Week.
On the men's side, sophomore Roberto Giménez earned his second accolade of the week while sophomore Chelsea Duffy picked up her first-ever weekly plaudits.
Giménez, who was also named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, finished the week with six points, all coming in a 5-3 road win at Navy. The Calle Calatrava, Spain native put away two goals while handing out a pair of assists, including the game-winning assist.
Giménez's career-high effort at Navy extended his point-scoring streak to four before behind held scoreless in a 1-0 win over Columbia Sunday.
The Blue Hens' 4-0-1 start is the best the program has enjoyed under current head coach Ian Hennessy and finest since the 1985 season when UD opened up 8-0-1.
Duffy, the first player from the CAA to earn PhillySoccerNews.com Player of the Week honors this season, helped the Hens edge Army 2-1 and move over .500 for the first time this season thanks to a three-game winning streak.
The Glassboro, N.J. (Gloucester Catholic HS) native had a hand in each of Delaware's goals against the Black Knights. Duffy put the Hens up 1-0 in the first half and followed up with an assist to senior Amy Pickard. After Army tallied a mark in the 82nd minute, Duffy was credited with the game-winning assist.
A sophomore midfielder, Duffy's three points also gave Delaware a 3-0-0 advantage against schools located in the state of New York. Earlier this fall, the Hens knocked off Stony Brook 3-0 at the James Madison/Fairfield Inn by Marriott Tournament. Delaware picked up a big 4-1 win on Sept. 9 against defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Siena. Duffy had the game-winning goal against the Saints after putting Delaware up 2-1 in the second half.
Both Hen squads will be in action this week. The men's team will head to Jersey City, N.J. to face Saint Peter's College on Wednesday. That game is set for 4 p.m. at Jaroschack Field. On the women's side Delaware is idle until Friday night when it opens CAA action against UNC Wilmington. That game will begin at 7 p.m. at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
