BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The University of Delaware women's cross country was part of a challenging field on Friday at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University and finished with a 42nd place team finish.
Blue Hen freshman Nicole Daly (at right) led Delaware for the first time in her career as she covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:04 to place 210th overall.
Providence won the team title in the 45-team field with a score of 101 as the Friars placed three runners in the top 10. Villanova, led by individual champion Bogdana Mimic (20:10), finished second with 104 points followed by Syracuse, Georgetown, Virginia, Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Boston College, and University of Guelph in the top 10.
The field also included teams from Duke, Harvard, Mississippi State, William & Mary, Maryland, and Tennessee.
Daly, who finished as the Hens' No. 2 finisher behind sophomore Lindsay Prettyman in each of the first three meets of the season, became the first freshman to lead the Blue Hens in a race since Cassie White led Delaware with a 17th place finish at the Delaware Invitational in 2007.
