After Four-Game Road Swing, Hens Return Home For Friday Night Tilt (Sept. 8, 2011)

NEWARK, Del. – After being on the road for its last four games, including a tournament hosted by James Madison University, the University of Delaware is ready to defend its home turf this weekend as the Blue Hens take on the Saints of Siena College.
"Being on the road two weekends in a row is demanding both physically and mentally,” said head coach Scott Grzenda, who is currently in his 22nd year with the program. “The team and staff are very excited to be back on our home field, playing in front of our local supporters. We had a great week of practice and are looking forward to letting go on Friday.”
Friday night's game against Siena (2-0-0) is slated for 7 p.m. at the newly resurfaced Delaware Mini-Stadium. This will be the second game in a row the Blue Hens will face a 2010 conference champion and NCAA opponent.

Looking for Number 200:
Head coach Scott Grzenda, now in his 22nd year as the program's only coach, is just five wins shy of the 200-victory plateau after a 3-0 over Stony Brook University. When he reaches that benchmark, he will become the 41st head coach to collect 200 wins at the NCAA Division I level.
The Series:
Friday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Delaware and Siena, which is based in Loudonville, N.Y., located just five miles north of Albany.
All-time against schools currently in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association, Delaware is 10-5-0. The Hens hold a perfect 3-0-0 record against Saint Peter's and have a mark of 5-3-0 vs. Loyola (Md.). Delaware is 1-0-0 against both Marist and Iona. The only school with a winning record against the Hens is Fairfield, which is 2-0-0 against Delaware.
The Hens have never faced Canisius College, Manhattan College, Niagara University or Rider University.
Scouting the Saints:
The Saints, currently 2-0-0 on the season, are coming off of a MAAC championship season in 2010. Friday night's game will be Siena's second road game of the year and will be the latest start time for the Saints so far this year.
Ashleigh Barone has accounted for 100 percent of Siena's scoring, tallying both of the team's goals, one each in pair of 1-0 victories. Her most recent goal against Quinnipiac helped Barone break three different school records; career goals, points and game-winning goals.
Siena has not allowed a goal this season, thanks in large part to netminder Laura Ettinger, who has played in 180 minutes of scoreless soccer this year. She has stopped all 14 opponent shots on goal. Ettinger was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Only one other Saint, Maren Serafine, has logged all 180 minutes of play in the young season. The senior back has helped the Saints to a pair of shutouts, weathering a storm of 35 opponent total shots.
No Saint has taken double-digit shots, with Barone leading the way with six. Brittany Pfaff has the second most (5) while handing out one of Siena's three assists. Caitlin Calahan and Kaitlyn Sharo have the other two helpers.
Siena has yet to score a goal in the second half of a game, putting away both markers in the opening period. The Saints have split their shots evenly, taking 12 in the first half and 11 in the second. Siena's defense is slightly lax in the second half, allowing 19 shots while allowing only 16 in the first half.

The Blue Hens are 1-3-1 overall this season, suffering a 2-0 loss Sunday night at the hands of 2010 Ivy League Champion, the University of Pennsylvania.
The team returns to its home, Delaware Mini-Stadium, after a four-game road swing, including action at the JMU/Fairfield Inn By Marriott Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. and a pair of games last weekend in Philadelphia.
Junior midfielder Mel Pennington leads the way for Delaware so far this season, tallying a pair of goals, both of which came against Stony Brook in a 3-0 win. She has four points on the year, edging fellow midfielder, senior Leigh Victory.
Victory, who has started every game this season, tallied Delaware's game-tying goal against Saint Joseph's last Friday night to help the Hens to a draw. Victory had a double assist on Pennington's first goal against Stony Brook.
Junior midfielder Tania Domingos has tallied Delaware's fourth goal, finishing on one of her four total shots.
Between the pipes, senior Brenna Stemler has made all five starts for the Hens this season, logging 415 minutes of play. She has stopped 20 shots so far this season, bringing her career total to 136, just 13 shy of former teammate Annie Bevan's mark of 159, which seventh all-time at Delaware. Stemler has turned away 76.9 percent of the 29 opponent shots on goal she has faced and has a goals against average of 1.30.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jess Levy has played in 45 minutes of action this year, finishing the game against Pennsylvania. In that game, she stopped all three shots she faced.
Delaware will be without the services of freshman back Allegra Gray, who suffered a broken nose and concussion against Saint Joseph's on Friday night. She will be out for six weeks following surgery to repair her nose.
