NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware athletics will host its second annual Women's Health Awareness Day Feb. 5 as part of the Blue Hen women's basketball game vs. VCU, and once again UD plans to honor women across Delaware and the region who have shown unparalleled bravery and strength while personally battling illness.
UD is seeking stories, testimonials, poems, social commentaries, and other types of creative expression about heroic women whose stories about their fight with disease have personally touched and inspired others.
Last year, nearly 50 entries were submitted and those who took part were recognized in an emotional halftime ceremony on the court. The ceremony was one of the most impactful events of the UD athletics season.
Every author of a submission will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the Blue Hens Women's Basketball game vs. VCU on Sunday, February 5 at 3 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center where he/she will be invited to represent and/or join their mother, sister, daughter, wife, grandmother, aunt, friend, co-worker or neighbor in a “Dare to be Strong” halftime on-court tribute in celebration of the women in your lives who have empowered and inspired others with their fighting spirit through extreme adversity.
Deadline to submit entries is Friday, Jan. 27 at 11:59 p.m. Please go to the UD athletics website at www.bluehens.com/fan-zone/dare-to-be-strong to submit your story.
Women's Health Awareness Day will feature health screenings and information booths highlighting health-related organizations and programs.
