NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware junior Elena Delle Donne earned College Sports Madness Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday after helping the No. 15-ranked Blue Hens to a 2-0 week.
The Blue Hens (16-1, 7-0 CAA) won their sixth consecutive game during the week as they picked up a 65-46 road win against Towson on Jan. 19 and a 60-49 home victory vs. Drexel at the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday.
Delle Donne earned the CSM award for the third time this season and for the first time since Nov. 21.
Delle Donne, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year and an Associated Press Preseason All-American who leads the nation in scoring with 27.9 points per game, eclipsed the 20-point mark for the 16th time vs. Drexel as she averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing in the two games, averaging 52 percent (13 of 25) from the floor and 81.8 percent (9 of 11) from the line. She also added five blocks, three assists, and three steals on the week.
The 6-5 junior was also named to the Preseason Wade National Player of the Year Watch List and Preseason John Wooden Top 30 List earlier this season.
Delle Donne and the Blue Hens return to action Thursday when they host Hofstra (14-4, 6-1 CAA) in another battle for first place in the CAA standings.
