Delaware Volleyball Standout Katie Hillman Named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week

Freshman utility player Katie Hillman (at right) was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for her play this past week as the Blue Hens split a pair of road contests in Virginia, falling to James Madison 3-0 Friday night before battling back to upend George Mason 3-2 on Saturday evening.
In addition to Hillman, Towson's Marta Machos was named the CAA Player of the Week and James Madison libero Katie Daorai was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Earlier this season for Delaware, Mackenzie Olsen was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Sept. 24, Ariel Shonk was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1 and CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 8, and Chelsea Lawrence was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8 .
Hillman, a native of Deerfield Beach, Fla. (Cardinal Gibbons High School), led the Hens to a 1-1 week as she played in eight games, led the team with 30 kills and a .296 hitting percentage, and also added 18 digs and three blocks.
She had 10 kills with just two errors to go with nine digs and three blocks in the 3-0 setback to James Madison on Friday and came back with a career-best 20 kills vs. George Mason on Saturday as she hit .327 and added nine digs.
For the season, Hillman ranks second on the team with 178 kills and 2.47 kills per set and is among the team leaders with a .195 kill pct.. She has registered 10 or more kills eight times this season, including four times in the last five matches.
Two-time defending CAA champion Delaware (9-12, 4-2 CAA), currently in sole possession of third place in the CAA standings, returns home to the Bob Carpenter Center for three matches this week. The Blue Hens will host Villanova in non-league action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. followed by home matches vs. CAA-leading Northeastern on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and vs. Hofstra on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m.
All fans who attend the Delaware vs. Rhode Island Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m. will be admitted free to the Delaware vs. Hofstra match by showing their football ticket stub.
