Delaware?s Alissa Alker, Ariel Shonk Honored as Volleyball Players of the Week by CAA

Both Alker and Shonk played pivotal roles as the Hens extended their winning streak to four matches with home victories of 3-0 over Villanova, 3-2 over previous league-leading Northeastern, and 3-2 over Hostra during the week.
Delaware, the two-time defending CAA Tournament champions, improved to 12-12 (6-2 CAA) heading into this week's lone contest, a Friday night matchup with undefeated league leader Towson on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Alker, a two-time All-CAA selection and a 2012 AVCA All-East Region pick, earned her first CAA honor of the season after an outstanding week. She led the team in kills and service aces during the week and ranked No. 2 in digs and No. 3 in blocks with 46 and 11. Alker recorded a season-high 21 kills in the 3-2 win over then CAA-leading Northeastern and added 26 digs to post her second career 20-20 match.
Shonk receives her third CAA weekly award after leading the team in digs during the week with 83 overall and 6.38 per match. She recorded 24+ digs in each match during the week and her 33 digs vs. Hofstra was her third highest total of the season. Shonk's current 5.71 digs per match mark for the season ranks No. 2 all-time at Delaware.Other weekly CAA winners were Co-Player of the Week Katy Buck of Towson and CAA Rookie of the Week MacKenzie Kleespies of James Madison.
