Four Blue Hens Reach Double Figures in Kills as Delaware Downs Georgia State 3-1 in Volleyball

Delaware, playing for the first time since a 3-1 setback to league-leading Towson last Friday, registered a dominating effort by winning games of 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, and 25-13 to win for the fifth time in the last six outings.
The Blue Hens evened their record at 13-13 (7-3 CAA) and guaranteed themselves at least a fourth place seeding in the upcoming CAA Tournament to be held at the highest seed Nov. 16-18.
Georgia State fell to 4-19 (2-9 CAA) with its third straight setback Delaware swept the season series from the Panthers, including a 3-0 win on Sept. 29, and downed GSU for the seventh time in the last eight meetings.
Lawrence, who recorded her fourth straight double figure effort for kills, hit .407 for the match as she knocked down 15 kills in 27 attempts with just four errors.
Also for the Hens, Alker posted her fourth straight double figure kills effort and 15th of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Katie Hank knocked down 13 kills, her 13th double figure effort of the year, and Hillman added 12 kills and 11 digs. Mackenzie Olsen dished out 55 assists while Ariel Shonk picked up 23 digs to lead the effort.
Alker, who had just one error in 31 kills attempts and hit .387 for the match, moved into sixth place on the all-time Delaware kills list with 1,294, passing 2012 UD Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Renee DuFlon, who had 1,283 in 1976-79.
Delaware jumped out to a 7-3 lead and later broke away from a 12-12 tie with a 5-1 run to capture the first game 25-19 and followed with a 25-18 win in the second game. The Hens were held without a sweep when they lost the third game 25-21, but came right back to clinch the match with a 25-21 win in the deciding game.
Delaware will close out the regular season at home at the Bob Carpenter Center next weekend when the Hens host William & Mary on Friday and UNCW on Saturday.
