NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware men's basketball head coach Monté Ross has announced the signings of Zacarry Douglas, Barnett Harris, Cazmon Hayes and DeVarte Watson, who recently signed National Letters of Intent with UD and will join the Blue Hens in the 2013-14 season.
Douglas, a 6-7 wing from National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Md., averaged 12 points and nine rebounds as a junior while leading NCA to a 24-10 record.
Harris, a 6-9 forward from Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa., is currently attending Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, Va. He averaged 12 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks as a senior last year as Gateway won its second straight Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League title. Harris shot 50 percent from the field a year ago for Gateway, and averaged 8.5 points and 6.7 rebounds as a junior.
Hayes, a 6-4 guard from Phillip O. Berry Academy in Charlotte, N.C., averaged 15.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game during his junior season. Hayes reached double figures in 23 of 26 games, and eclipsed the 16-point mark in 16 contests. This past weekend Hayes scored 42 points in a game to break the Charlotte Hoops Challenge scoring mark.
Watson, a 6-7 forward from Oakbrook Prep in Spartanburg, S.C., was a South Carolina Independent School Association All-Star and a Regional III-2A first team selection last season as a junior. Watson was also named Herald-Journal second team All-Area after averaging 16 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Knights.
“These four young men are all good players, but more importantly they are good students and good people,” Ross said. “We are confident they have the character to represent Delaware basketball, and will fit in with what we are doing here academically, athletically, and socially.”
