Delaware Athletics & Recreation Services to Hold Special Days for Women's Health Awareness this Weekend

NEWARK, Del. -- Fans are invited to join the University of Delaware women's basketball and men's and women's ice hockey programs this weekend as each will host special programs promoting women's health and breast cancer awareness as part of their contests.
Pink Ribbon Day, which helps support the fight against breast cancer, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena. The UD Women's Ice Hockey Club team will host California (Pa.) University at 3:15 p.m. followed by the UD Men's Ice Hockey Club team taking on Liberty at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 5, the University of Delaware Alumni Association will sponsor the Dare to Be Strong Women's Health Awareness Game as part of the Delaware vs. Virginia Commonwealth game at 2 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
As part of the Women's Health Awareness Game, a Women's Health Fair will be held from 12:30 until 2 p.m. on the Bob Carpenter Center Concourse. Fan should come early and visit with the following organizations to learn about potential health concerns, awareness, and preventative care: Susan G. Komen for the Cure; HERA Foundation; Christiana Care; UD School of Nursing; Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence (DCADV); National MS Society, Delaware Chapter; and Blood Bank of Delmarva.
Giveaways will be available for fans in conjunction with the event.
At halftime of the women's basketball game, those fans who have previously submitted stories and testimonials regarding heroic women who have battled personal illness as part of the Dare to be Strong campaign, will be honored on the court. Pink Ribbon Day on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena will begin at 1 p.m. with public ice skating, a silent auction baskets for all ages, free arts and crafts including sand art, special prizes and giveaways, a chance to skate with UD women's ice hockey players from 1-2 pm., the women's ice hockey game at 3:15 p.m., and the men's ice hockey game at 5 p.m. There will be a Mites on Ice game between periods of the men's game.
Admission to the public session is $8 per person ($5 for kids 6 and under) with a $3 charge for rental skates. Admission to the women's ice hockey game is free. Ticket prices for the men's ice hockey game are $6 for adults and $4 for children 18 and under.
As part of the Pink Ribbon Day, members of both ice hockey teams will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off at the end of the game. Special honorees will drop the puck for each game.
