University of Delaware Chosen To Host First and Second Rounds of 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Delaware has been selected as one of 16 host sites for the first and second rounds of the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, it was announced Monday.
Delaware will host first and second round games at the Bob Carpenter Center, where the Blue Hens are averaging 3,701 fans per game this season which ranks 27th nationally.
Delaware, which moved up to No. 10 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll, is 22-1 this season including a perfect 13-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Blue Hens are expected to return all five starters and six of their top seven current scorers for the 2012-13 campaign.
UD was one of 16 sites picked for first and second round games, which will be held on either Saturday, March 23 and Monday, March 25, or Sunday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Other host schools selected were LSU, Colorado, Maryland, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Duke, Iowa, Tennessee, Louisville, Texas Tech, St. John's, Gonzaga, Stanford, Connecticut, and Baylor.
The Ted Constant Center in Norfolk, Va., Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Wash., and Sun National Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J. were selected as regional sites for the 2013 Championship.
“This is a great opportunity for the University of Delaware to be on the national stage,” said Blue Hens women's basketball head coach Tina Martin, who picked up her 300th career win during Sunday's 94-56 triumph at Georgia State. “There is outstanding basketball played at tournament time, and our fans will be treated to some great teams. Our fans have been great all season, and hopefully they will come out in full force for the NCAA Tournament next year.”
“This is exciting news for the University of Delaware and our women's basketball program,” said UD Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Bernard Muir. “The interest in our program is at an all-time high, and we look forward to putting on a first-class event.”
