RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior Elena Delle Donne earned Colonial Athletic Association honors on Monday after helping the now No. 8 ranked Blue Hens to another 2-0 week in conference action.
Delle Donne, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year and an Associated Press Preseason All-American, put up a game-high 28 points to go with 11 boards en route to her 12th double-double of the season in a 71-53 triumph over George Mason on Thursday.
The 6-5 junior, who earlier in the day was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for NCAA Division I women's basketball, knocked down 9 of 16 shots from the field, 3 of 5 three-pointers, and 7 of 8 free throws while also four assists, and two blocked shots.
Delle Donne's seven free throws gave her 541 for her career, breaking the UD career mark previously held by current Blue Hen assistant coach Tiara Malcom, who had 535 during an all-conference career in 2001-05.
The nation's leading scorer at 28.3 points per game, Delle Donne poured in a game-high 35 points and seven rebounds to go with two assists, one block, and one steal during the Blue Hens' 89-71 victory over Northeastern on Sunday.
Delaware (26-1, 17-0 CAA) completed the last game of a perfect 12-0 home season record in front of sellout crowd of 5,043. The Hens posted their first undefeated regular season home record since the 2006-07 season and their first undefeated home schedule for all games since the 2000-01 campaign when the team went 11-0 at the BCC.
Delle Donne collected CAA Player of the Week accolades eighth time this season and the 16th time in her three-year Blue Hen career.
The Wilmington, Del. native was also named to the Preseason Wade National Player of the Year Trophy Watch List, Preseason John Wooden Top 30 List, Naismith Early-Season National Player of the Year Watch List, and John R. Wooden Award Midseason Watch List earlier this season.
Delle Donne and the Blue Hens look to finish off regular season conference action with an unbeaten CAA record on Wednesday, Feb. 29 as they face William & Mary (10-18, 3-14) at 7 p.m. for the final regular season game of the year.
