RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior Elena Delle Donne earned Colonial Athletic Association and College Sports Madness CAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday after helping the No. 12 ranked Blue Hens to another 2-0 week in conference action.
In addition, she was also tabbed as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Delle Donne, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year and an Associated Press Preseason All-American, poured in a game-high 29 points and 14 rebounds to go with four assists, three blocks, and two steals during the Blue Hens' 62-53 victory at UNCW on Feb. 2.
The nation's leading scorer at 28.1 points per game, Delle Donne put up a game-high 22 points to go with 12 boards en route to her eighth double-double of the season in a 68-49 triumph over VCU on Sunday. She also added two blocks, two assists, and one steal as the Hens notched their 10th consecutive victory on the year and remained a perfect 9-0 at home.
Delaware (20-1, 11-0 CAA) registered its second 10-game win streak of the season and reached the 20-win mark in just 21 games, the fastest to that mark in UD history. The Hens have won 20 or more games in 10 of the last 13 seasons, all under 16th year head coach Tina Martin.
Delle Donne collected a pair of CAA Player of the Week and CSM accolades for the second straight week. She earned CAA Player of the Week for the seventh time this season and the 15th time in her three-year career and earned the CSM award for the fifth time this season.
The Wilmington, Del. native was also named to the Preseason Wade National Player of the Year Trophy Watch List, Preseason John Wooden Top 30 List, Naismith Early-Season National Player of the Year Watch List, and John R. Wooden Award Midseason Watch List earlier this season.
Delle Donne and the Blue Hens return to action Thursday, Feb. 9 as they wrap up a two-game home stand in a face off with CAA foe Old Dominion (8-15, 5-6) for a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Bob Carpenter Center.
