Delaware Rowers Open 2012 Spring Season with Strong Showing at Philadelphia Quad Meet

Racing against Philadelphia area Dad Vail opponents Drexel, Saint Joseph's, and La Salle, the Blue Hens had a solid day of racing, finishing in second or third place in each event.
According to interim head coach Jinny Jang, the race served as a good barometer of early season speed for the squad.
“This was a great day of racing across the entire team,” said Jang. “The coaching staff and team is very pleased and we are looking forward to improving our speed over the coming weeks.”
In the Varsity Eights, the Blue Hens were unable to hold off a late surge by Drexel to take third place. Saint Joseph's won the event with a time of 6:56, Drexel was second with a time of 7:00.3, Delaware finished just behind with a time of 7:01.3, and La Salle finished fourth with a time of 7:08.3. Delaware's team consisted of coxswain Hillary Levitz, Rachel Conway, Julia Cagney, Lauren Kanaskie, Lauren Kolsky, Holly Dodge, Alex Smart, Virginia Hall, and Jamie Hedrick
The Second Varsity Eights crew of coxswain Dianna Levin, Bethany Callaway, Calla Cissel, Jenny Kohler, Ally Crossman, Bethany Porter, Rachel Boudart, Angela Quinn, and Meredith Murphy saw another third place finish for the Hens when they posted a time of 6:56. Drexel A won the event with a time of 6:45.2, followed by Saint Joseph's (6:50.9), Delaware, Drexel B (7:02.5), and La Salle (7:08.5).
Delaware A posted the Hens' lone second place finish on the day in the Novice Eights, crossing the line in a time of 7:21.7. Drexel won the race, finishing in 7:07. Saint Joseph's finished in third place with a time of 7:29.8 followed by Delaware B (7:43.5).
Delaware's A team consisted of coxswain Hayley Diverio, Yardley Markee, Jen Majcher, Catherine Manner, Jess Grant, Kate Flood, Corey Holloway, Denise Cirelli, and Lily Guttentag while the B team consisted of coxswain Jamie Noce, Mackenzie Chrisco, Sarah Dropnock, Syd Gayda, Kelly Kauker, Amanda Budzilowicz, Shannon Bell, Molly Gardner, and Danielle Lawler.
The first event of the morning, the Varsity Fours, also saw Delaware finish in third place with a time of 8:13.7. La Salle recorded a time of 7:59.7 to win the event followed by Saint Joseph's (8:02.7). Delawre's team consisted of coxswain Anna Sung, Laura Wertman, Sarah Slotoroff, Christy Bugher, and Kristen Endres.
Next Saturday the squad heads to Norfolk, Va. to face off against host Old Dominion and North Carolina in a tri-meet.
