The Delaware men (7-7) had two clutch tiebreakers to end the day as the Hens swept Mount St. Mary's (10-8) in singles play and captured the doubles point with two doubles victories.
The Delaware women (8-4) won their eighth straight match over the Mount (9-7) dating back to 1994, when the Mount defeated the Hens, 5-2. Delaware swept each flight in both singles and doubles play to earn their sixth shut out victory of the season.
In men's singles action, Delaware's Nolan Gelman got off to a strong start with a 6-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's Mike Salomon in the first set at No. 4, but the second set would end evenly to force a tiebreaker. Gelman battled with a gutsy performance to capture the point for the Hens with a final set score of 7-6(6). Similarly, Ryan Kent cruised by Mount St. Mary's Taylor Place, 6-1, before edging Place, 7-6(6) in the tiebreaker.
In doubles play, the Blue Hen men earned the point with victories at the top and third flights. Delaware's Troy Beneck (bottom left) and Adam Lawton duo shut out Place and Matthew Black, 8-0 at the top flight, while Nolan Gelman and Evan Andrews combined at the third flight for an 8-3 victory over the Mount's Patrick McGinley and Mike Zabetakis at No. 3.
The Delaware women swept all three doubles matches to open the contest with a 1-0 lead. Samantha Carnall and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 against Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy. Dorothy Safron and Courtney Fenimore (above right) followed by downing Carly Landini and Renee Deane 8-1 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3, the Kimberly Milla and Christina Harrington partnership completed the sweep with an 8-1 win over Liz Rossi and Jennifer Smith.
Carnall doubled the Delaware lead in singles as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top spot against Pinchoff. Safron downed Conroy 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and Fenimore pitched in with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Sjoberg-Sundstrom added a 6-2, 6-0 win against Landini at No. 4 and Milla downed Rossi 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Olivia Heim finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 position.
The Blue Hens will look to stay hot as they return to Colonial Athletic Association action later this week. Up next, the women hit the road to face Towson on April 13 at 2 p.m., while the men head to George Mason on April 15 for a 12 noon match.
