Delaware's Season Comes to an End with 4-0 Loss to Second-Seeded UNCW in CAA Quarterfinals

NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team had its season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to second-seeded UNCW in the Colonial Athletic Association Quarterfinals on Friday.
The match up took place in the quarterfinals of the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial Athletic Association tournament, held at Old Dominion University's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
UNCW (15-6 overall) will take on third-seeded Georgia State in the semifinals on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
In doubles play, the Seahawks won the first and third flights to secure the point. At the top flight, Samantha Carnall and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom put up a hard-fought battle to UNCW's Christina Lee and Alyssa Ritchie, but the Seahawks came out on top with an 8-3 victory.
At No. 3, the Blue Hen duo of Olivia Heim and Kimberly Milla dropped a tough 8-0 decision to Miller Hales and Kelly Cameron as UNCW won the doubles point.
Dorothy Safron and Courtney Fenimore were down just one point, 4-5, to Olga Blank and Angie Sekely in the second flight before the doubles point had been decided.
Singles action wrapped up the fourth flight first, as Cameron of UNCW defeated Sjoberg-Sundstrom, 6-0, 6-3.
The sixth flight was the second to finish, as Amanda Halstrom was unable to hang on in a 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Casey Dashiell.
The final singles match of the day would be at the No. 3 position, as Courtney Fenimore had a six-match win streak snapped by Ritchie, who took the point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Three singles matches went unfinished. In the top flight, Carnall dropped her first set, 6-3, and was down by a 5-2 score in the second.
At the No. 2 position, Safron was swept in her first set, 6-0, but battled in her second as she held a one-point lead before the match was cut short.
The fifth flight was tightly contested between Heim and Riley, who stretched the first set to a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker before the match was ended.
