University of Delaware Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Honored by NCAA for Academic Success

The two Blue Hen squads, both led by head coach Laura Travis, were among 19 teams recognized as recipients of the NCAA Public Recognition Award, which is based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate.
The awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent of each sport. This year's awards are compiled using the academic and retention rates for the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.
Among the nine members of the Delaware men's team, seven student-athletes had cumulative grade point averages of 2.9 or higher with four compiling 3.0 or better marks. On the women's side, seven of the eight team members had recorded cumulative gpa's of 3.0 or higher with two team members surpassing the 3.55 cumulative mark.
Delaware men's team members are senior Andre Vorobyov, junior Ryan Kent, sophomores Troy Beneck, Jason Derene, Nolan Gelman, and Adam Lawton, and freshmen Evan Andrews and Ian LeBlanc.
Delaware women's team members are seniors Samantha Carnall, Courtney Fenimore, and Sophie Sjoberg Sundstrom, junior Amanda Halstrom, sophomores Olivia Heim and Dorothy Safron, and freshmen Christina Harrington and Kimberly Milla.
The Delaware men posted a dual record of 8-9 and advanced to the second round of the CAA Tournament this past season while the Blue Hen women went 11-6 in duals and also advanced to the CAA quarterfinals.
Northeastern had a league-high three teams (field hockey, men's cross country men's soccer) honored with APR Recognition while Delaware was tied for second with its two recipients. Drexel (women's basketball and women's tennis) George Mason (women's swimming and women's volleyball), Towson (women's cross country and women's soccer) and William & Mary (field hockey and women's golf) also earned two Public Recognition Awards.Also receiving awards were full-time members UNCW (women's golf) and Old Dominion (women's golf), as well as associate members Boston University (wrestling), Dayton (women's golf), Richmond (women's golf) and Xavier (women's golf).
