Leading the way for the Blue Hens were junior forward Roberto Gimenez and junior midfielder Vincente Mediate, who were two of the 12 players selected to the first team.
A total of 23 players overall were selected by the league head coaches on the first team and honorable mention squads. Old Dominion senior forward Yannick Smith and James Madison senior midfielder Paul Wyatt were selected as the pre-season CAA Players of the Year.
Delaware posted its best record in school history last year as the Blue Hens went 13-6-4 in addition to claiming its first CAA Tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round.
The Hens will open the 2012 season this Friday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. at the University of Massachusetts. Delaware's home opener is set for Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. when the Blue Hens face the U.S. Naval Academy at Delaware Mini Stadium.
Gimenez, a junior forward from Calle Calatrava, Spain (Les Parques Lineal and Zurbaran HS), earned first team All-CAA honors and was the CAA Rookie of the Year last fall when he led the Blue Hens with seven assists in addition to scoring 10 goals in 18 games.
Mediate, a junior midfielder from Southlake, Tex. (Southlake Carroll HS) and last year's CAA Tournament Most Valuable Player, will be a third-year midfielder this fall. He played 21 games a year ago, making 18 starts and registering four goals and three assists.
