Hens Assist Arrival Survial Team with New Student Check-in Day (Aug. 30, 2012)

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team lent their team strength to the Office of Residence Life by volunteering as a part of The Arrival Survival Team in helping incoming students on August 25 as a part of New Student Check-in Day.
Led by captains, John Dineen, Roberto Gimenez and Tobias Muller, the men's soccer team helped the incoming new students by moving luggage and other belongings into their residence hall rooms.
By extending a warm welcome to the new students and their parents in their transition to the University, the Arrival Survival Team and men's soccer program made the first step in building the strong and positive community that enhances every student's living and learning experience.
"We have been helping the students move in for a number of years now. We find the interaction with new students is always positive and friendly,” head coach Ian Hennessy said. “I think both student and parents alike are genuinely grateful that the soccer team takes time out of their day to help them get settled."
Delaware's Sigma Chi fraternity developed the concept 21 years ago as a service project to assist the first-year students moving into the Dickinson Complex. Three years later, the Office of Residence Life took over the responsibilities of the program, which has grown over the past 18 years on the UD campus.
The University of Delaware men's soccer team travels to Durham, N.C. to participate in the John Rennie Nike Invitational. The Blue Hens will play North Carolina State University on Friday, August 31 at 5:30 p.m. and then tackle Duke University on Sunday, September 2 at 2:30 p.m. The John Rennie Nike Invitational will be played at Duke's Koskinen Stadium.
