Four Delaware Women's Tennis Singles Players Advance to Round of 16 at Cissie Leary Tournament

Freshman Danea Jonjic posted two victories to advance to the Round of 16 in the Flight A singles while teammates Amanda Halstrom, Olivia Heim (at right), and Carmen Lai all advanced to the Round of 16 in the Flight B singles competition.
Blue Hen junior Dorothy Safron also advanced to the Flight A singles consolation semifinals and Kimberly Milla advanced to the Flight B singles consolation semifinals.
Also competing in Flight A for the Hens was Nataliya Naumova, who advanced due to an injury in the first round before falling in the Round of 32 to Bianca Sanon of Columbia.
Only one Delaware doubles team, the tandem Heim and Kimberly Milla, advanced past the Round of 64.
Jonjic defeated Zeynep Mafa of Drexel in the first round and Welma Luus of Maryland in the second round before falling to Hanna Yu of Yale in the Round of 16; Halstrom downed Jules Rodin of Penn, received a bye in the second round, and fell to Courtney Amos of Yale in the Round of 16; Heim received a first round bye and advanced with a second round win over Courtney Malinchak before falling to Julienne Keong of Dartmouth in the Round of 32; and Lai got a first round bye and downed Emma Whitefield of Penn before falling to Alex Ion of Penn in the Round of 16.
Safron battled back from a first round loss to Janet Liu of Dartmouth to win her consolation match over Ksenia Mikhaylova before falling to Nicole Pivonka of Drexel in the consolation semifinals. Milla received a first round bye before falling to Rebecca Breland of Temple in the Round of 32. She advanced with a consolation win over Terri Thomas before falling in the semifinals to Sarah Guzick of Yale.
Naumova advanced by an injury before falling to Bianca Sanon of Columbia in the Round of 32 and to Maame Ana Osei of Temple in the consolation round.
Delaware will continue action next weekend at the Saint Joseph's Tournament in Philadelphia.
