NEWARK, Del. -- Ali Miller, who scored two of Blue Hens' three goals in a week where the University of Delaware women's soccer team opened Colonial Athletic Association with victories over Towson and George Mason, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week award for the period ending Sept. 24.
Miller, a senior from Sinking Spring, Pa. (Wilson High School), helped the Blue Hens improve to 5-4 (2-0 CAA) on the season as they defeated Towson 1-0 on Friday night and George Mason 2-1 in overtime on Sunday.
The Hens now sit atop the CAA standings alongside of Hofstra and William & Mary with their 2-0 mark and head into road games at Georgia State and UNCW this weekend.
Miller, a honor student as a Spanish education major at Delaware with a minor in business administration, broke out of a scoring slump in a big way as she hit the back of the net for the first time since Aug. 31 - a streak of five straight games without a score.
She scored the Blue Hens' only goal in a 1-0 victory over Towson Friday night in the CAA opener at the Delaware Mini-Stadium and then tallied the game-winner in overtime to lead the Hens to a 2-1 win over George Mason. Her goal vs. George Mason came with just 4:07 left in overtime
Miller tied a school record in 2011 when she tallied 1 4 goals and earned first team All-CAA and third team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors.
