University of Delaware Basketball Teams To Kick Off 2012-13 Season With Blue Hens Madness on October 12

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men's and women's basketball teams will celebrate the beginning of the 2012-13 season with Blue Hens Madness on Friday, October 12 at the Bob Carpenter Center, as UD fans will get their first chance to meet the Blue Hen players for the upcoming year.
BCC doors will open at 6:45 p.m., with the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. Make sure to arrive early, as blue and yellow glowstick glasses will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Blue Hen basketball season ticket holders should stop by the Guest Relations Spirit Station kiosk to receive team posters and spirit buttons.
Admission is free; however students and fans are asked to register online in advance at http://www.bluehens.com/madness/form.html.
The free official 2012-13 Cockpit Basketball t-shirt for the entire season will be distributed exclusively to UD students with a valid UD ID card that register in advance. The only available opportunity to receive the shirt is by registering for Blue Hens Madness and attending the event. Shirts will be distributed to those who have registered by Wednesday, October 3. Sizes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis following the event. UD students will check in upon entering the BCC and secure a number to receive their shirt following the event.
The exciting event will include special player introductions of the 2012-13 Blue Hen men's and women's basketball teams, performances by the UD cheerleaders, dance team, pep band and YoUDee, a high-flying performance by the Air Elite Dunk Team, and intrasquad team scrimmages.
Additionally, shooting contests featuring Blue Hen fans teaming up with select players from the basketball teams will be held, along with a youth dunk competition sponsored by the Future Hens Club.
There will also be a surprise finale, with a post-event autograph session following the evening's festivities.
Students and fans are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Delaware Food Bank. Most-needed items include hot and cold cereals; instant or shelf-stable milk; fruit juice; canned meats; peanut butter and jelly; pork and beans, refried beans, and rice; canned soups and stew; kidney, pinto, lima, black beans (dry) and green beans; canned vegetables; long-grain rice and rice mixes; pasta, macaroni and cheese, instant potatoes and pasta mixes/hamburger helper; canned fruits; and spaghetti sauce.
