Blue Hen Volleyball Team Plays CAA Home Opener Saturday Against Georgia State

The Blue Hens (4-11), who dropped their league opener at Towson last Friday, will be looking to make it two consecutive victories when they face the Panthers. Delaware snapped a two-match losing skid on Tuesday when the Blue Hens posted a 3-0 non-conference victory over Morgan State at the BCC.
Senior outside hitter Alissa Alker leads the Blue Hens with 138 kills on the season, and also ranks second on the squad with 154 digs. Opposite her is standout freshman outside hitter Katie Hillman, who is second on the team with 111 kills. Freshman setter Mackenzie Olsen has handed out 488 assists on the season, while classmate Ariel Shonk has posted a team-high 274 digs.
Georgia State carries a 2-12 overall record and an 0-2 CAA mark into Friday's contest at Towson, and the Panthers have dropped five consecutive matches. Senior outside hitter Jamiee Freeman leads the Panthers with 102 kills, while freshman middle blocker Sydney Hunsley ranks second on the team with 96 kills. The Panthers feature a two-setter system, as freshmen Natalia Nieto and Andrea' DeLeon pace the squad in assists with 222 and 173, respectively. In the backcourt, junior Libero Emily Averbeck leads the Panthers with 258 digs.
Saturday's match is the second of a three-game homestand for the Blue Hens. The first 250 fans to arrive at the match will receive a free UD volleyball “Blackout” T-shirt.
Delaware wraps up its homestand on Tuesday when the Blue Hens host in-state rival Delaware State at 7 p.m.
