Blue Hen Guard Devon Saddler Named Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware junior guard Devon Saddler was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday following a pair of outstanding performances during two key Blue Hens' conference victories.
Saddler, a native of Aberdeen, Md., averaged 26.0 points and 5.5 rebounds last week while shooting 67.9 percent (19 of 28) from the field, including 55.6 percent (5 of 9) from three-point range.
Saddler led all scorers by pouring in 23 points during Wednesday's 69-54 win over Hofstra, surpassing the 1,300-point mark for his career and moving into 10th place on the UD career scoring list. He knocked down 9 of 14 shots from the field and was 2 of 4 from behind the arc, and also grabbed five rebounds against the Pride.
Saddler then scored 29 points at Georgia State, his second highest total of the season, finishing 10 of 14 from the floor. He saved his biggest shot for last though, as after the Panthers had rallied from 11 points down with 1:41 to play to tie the game, Saddler buried a deep three-pointer from the left wing with under a second to play to give UD the dramatic 86-83 victory.
Saddler currently is tied for 14th in Division I with 20.6 points per game, and he has scored 39 more points than any other player in the CAA. He also ranks third in the league with an 81.4 free throw percentage, fourth with 36.2 minutes played and a 37.6 three-point percentage, fifth with 2.0 three-pointers made per game, and tied for sixth with 2.9 assists per game.
The award was the second of the season for Saddler, who was also named the CAA Player of the Week on Nov. 26. Jerome Hairston of Towson was selected the league's Rookie of the Week.
Saddler and the Blue Hens will look for their sixth consecutive victory on Wednesday as Delaware hosts Towson at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
