RICHMOND, Va. – As the University of Delaware women's basketball team moved into first place in the Colonial Athletic Association and re-entered the Associated Press Top 25 national rankings, senior All-American Elena Delle Donne was selected as the CAA Player of the Week for the third straight week and fourth time this season.
The forward averaged 25.0 points per game on strong 60.6 percent (20-33) shooting from the floor as the Blue Hens defeated UNCW and Drexel last week to remain unbeaten in league play. Additionally, Delle Donne added 7.0 rebounds per game to go along with five blocks, two assists and one steal in 65 minutes of action. She also shot 55.6 percent (5-9) from beyond the arc.
Delle Donne leads the team with 24.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest with 28 blocks, 19 assists and 11 steals for Delaware (15-3; 6-0 CAA) this season despite missing six games with symptoms of Lyme Disease.
The Blue Hens have won 10 straight games, including 25 consecutive in regular season league play. They are currently ranked first in the College Insider Mid-Major Poll and No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25.
Drexel's Hollie Mershon and James Madison's Kirby Buckholder shared CAA Player of the Week honors with Delle Donne while JMU's Precious Hall was named as the CAA Rookie of the Week.
The Blue Hens have little down time following the Drexel game as they host Northeastern at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bob Carpenter Center and then travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face off against Georgia State at 7 p.m. Thursday.
