Blue Hens Men's Soccer Falls Short at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The University of Delaware of men's soccer team dropped just its second game of the 2013 season Wednesday evening at Parson's field as the Blue Hens fell 2-0 to defending league champion Northeastern. The loss is the first Colonial Athletic Association setback and first shutout Delaware has suffered this year.
Northeastern scored two goals in the first 22 minutes of the first half and maintained the 2-0 lead for the remainder of the match to earn the victory. The first Huskies' score came on a penalty kick in the 16th minute by former Delaware All-Stater Dante Marini and the second came less than five minutes later when Christian McKenna scored.
Reigning CAA Rookie of the Week Jaime Martinez led the Blue Hens with four shots. Junior keeper Borja Barbero suffered just his second loss of the season as he registered two saves against Northeastern. Barbero is now 9-2-0 this season going 2-1 on CAA play.
Ian HennessyDelaware, at 10-2 (2-1 CAA), is still off to its best start in program history. Northeastern improves to 3-0-1 in CAA action with a 6-4-3 overall record.
The Blue Hens return to Delaware Mini-Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. Game vs. CAA rival Drexel.
