Delaware Men's Soccer Continues to Jump in Nationals Polls

NEWARK, Del. - After upsetting No. 7 UMBC 1-0 in double overtime last week, the University of Delaware men's soccer team has received more recognition on the national scene.
Before last week's meeting between the Blue Hens and the Retrievers, Delaware was receiving votes in the College Soccer News national top-30 and was ranked eighth in the South Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
This week, Delaware has moved into the top-30 in the College Soccer News poll and is now ranked fifth in the South Atlantic Region by NSCAA/Continental Tire Rankings . The Blue Hens have been ranked regionally for the sixth consecutive week. Delaware is the only Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) team to be ranked in College Soccer News poll.
For the first time in Delaware program history, the Blue Hens have been ranked in the national top-15 in the NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) rankings. The RPI rankings consist of three factors, Division I winning percentage, strength of schedule and opponent's strength of schedule. RPI is used by the NCAA when evaluating teams for postseason selection.
Delaware is also receiving votes in the NSCAA's national top-25 for the first time this season.
Ian HennessyAll eight current CAA teams have earned a berth in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship at least once since 2006.
Delaware begins CAA play tomorrow, Oct. 9 when the Blue Hens travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on the Dukes of James Madison. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
