Blue Hens Pick Up First CAA Win of the Season with 2-1 Victory at James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware men's soccer team earned its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win of the 2013 season this evening as the Blue Hens beat the James Madison Dukes 2-1 at University Park soccer complex.
Freshman midfielder Jaime Martinez led the Blue Hens with a goal and an assist in Delaware's sixth straight victory. The multi-point performance is the third of Martinez's rookie campaign. 
Martinez scored the opening goal of the contest in the sixth minute of the first half when he headed a perfect cross from junior Kyle Nuel on the first Blue Hen corner of the game. The goal is the fourth of the year for the forward and the assist marks the third for Nuel.
In the 77th of the match, senior tri-captain Roberto Giménez put Delaware up 2-0 after scoring his first goal of the season. Martinez found Gimenez on through ball and the forward found the back of the net on the far post. The assist is Martinez's fourth this season.
JMU responded with a goal of its own five minutes later, but the Blue Hens stifled the Dukes' comeback effort to earn their first conference win.
Reigning CAA Player of the Week Borja Barbero (at right) earned the win for Delaware in net to improve to 8-1. The junior allowed one goal on four shots against JMU. Barbero has now allowed one or less goals in six games this season.
