NEWARK, Del. – Some very lucky children in need will receive complimentary transportation and admission to one of the hottest tickets in town when they attend the University of Delaware women's basketball game Thursday, February 14 at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Thanks to Coach Tina Martin and the Blue Hens, these children in need, along with their chaperones and families, will have the opportunity to enjoy themselves as spectators for a night of exciting college basketball as UD hosts CAA foe Old Dominion.
Attendees will include children from the Boys and Girls Club, Latin American Community Center, Urban Promise, Dare to Care, Bethel AME Church Youth Group, Coverdale Community Center, along with student ambassadors from Stanton Middle School.
“These organizations hold a special place in my heart as my mom lost both of her parents at the age of three,” Martin remarked. “I always enjoy reaching out to children in need and organizations that support this cause. I hope they thoroughly enjoy the experience of watching a Delaware women's basketball game.”
In addition to this being the first time for many of these children to ever attend a college basketball game, they'll also experience the excitement of forming the halftime Hens High Five Tunnel and the chance to cheer on the nationally-ranked women's basketball team.
“The kids are so excited, most of whom will be attending their first college basketball game,” said Caroline Jones, Founder and Executive Director of Kind to Kids. “College basketball carries a high level of skill and excitement, and to go to a game with such an excellent is a fantastic opportunity and we've got a lot of happy kids.”
The Kind to Kids Foundation is a local non-profit organization that provides enriching experiences and educational programs for foster children and children in poverty and has been working to put together this event.
