RICHMOND, Va. – Things are continuing to look bright for the University of Delaware women's basketball team and Elena Delle Donne (at right) as the All-American was named Monday as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, espnW National Athlete of the Week and the College Sports Madness National High-Major Player of the Week.
For the fourth straight week and fifth time this season, the CAA named Delle Donne their Player of the Week as the Blue Hens went 3-0 in league play to improve to 18-3 overall and 9-0 in the conference. Sunday's 79-63 victory over Hofstra was Delaware's 13th straight and 28th consecutive in CAA regular season play.
Following her performances in these three games, espnW also honored Delle Donne as their national player of the week for the first time this season. The forward averaged 28.7 points in just 29 minutes of play with 6.7 rebounds per contest. She added six blocked shots, six steals and five assists for Delaware.
Delle Donne put up 35 points, her second-best point total of the season, on 10-of-20 shooting from the field against the Pride yesterday.
She garnered her third Player of the Week nod as College Sports Madness selected the senior for their High-Major honors.
Delle Donne leads the team with 25.3 points in addition to 8.6 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 2.1 three-pointers and 1.6 assists per game this season.
The Blue Hens recently rose to No. 20 in the Associated Press Top 25 national media poll and remained atop the CBI Mid-Major Poll for the fourth consecutive week with 771 votes and 28 first-place rankings.
