Varsity Eights Crew Advances to Semifinals to Lead Delaware Rowing Team at Dad Vail Regatta

The Varsity Eights crew was one of four Delaware boats that competed Friday with the UD Varsity Four team placing fourth in its heat, the Novice Eights crew finishing fourth in its heat, and the Second Varsity Eights crew placing fourth in its heat. However, only the Blue Hen Varsity Eights crew advanced to Saturday's action.
The V8 team of coxswain Hayley Diverio, Holly Dodge, Sarah Slotoroff, Jennifer Kohler, Catherine Manner, Bethany Porter, Calla Cissel, Bethany Callaway, and Alexandra Smart rowed to a time of 6:56.00 to place fourth in its heat (Bucknell won with a time of 6:35.942) and advance to the second round where the Hens placed third with a time of 7:07.927 (Marist won with a time of 7:03.677). Delaware will now compete in the semifinals Saturday at 10:07 a.m.
In other action Friday, the UD Varsity Fours team of coxswain Molly Gardner, Angela Quinn, Danielle Lawler, Kaitlin Flood, and Shannon Bell placed fourth with a time of 7:54.072, trailing winner Western Ontario (7:12.186), Fairfield, and George Mason and finishing ahead of Geneseo and John Carroll.
The Novice Eights crew of coxswain Sarah Tenenbaum, Annie Waskover, Erin Dunne, Naomi Balodemas, Kathleen Garrity, Haley Northrup, Samantha Noel, Megan Kirby, and Jennifer Boone placed fourth in 7:41.751, finishing behind winner Lehigh (7:21.639), Duquesne, and Purdue and ahead of Ohio University.
The Second Varsity Eights grouping of coxswain Jamie Noce, Denise Cirelli, Jennifer Majcher, Shannon Taylor, Ally Crossman, Alexandra Cruz, Corey Holloway, Meredith Murphy, and Lily Guttentag finished fourth in 7:25.641, trailing winner Massachusetts (7:05.295), Purdue, and Connecticut and ahead of La Salle and Jacksonville.
