Blue Hen Women's Basketball Releases 2013-14 Non-Conference Schedule

NEWARK, Del. – On the heels of the best season in program history, the University of Delaware women's basketball team announced its non-conference schedule for the 2013-14 season, which includes four teams that participated in post-season play last year.
The Blue Hens, who earned two victories in the NCAA Tournament en route to the first Sweet 16 appearance in school history in 2013, will open the upcoming season at Rhode Island on November 8. Delaware has won the last three contests against Rhody, including a 57-40 victory last December.
UD will then kick off the home portion of its schedule as the Hens host Temple (Nov. 12), Wake Forest (Nov. 15) and Monmouth (Nov. 19) at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Following the contest against Monmouth, head coach Tina Martin and her squad play the next six games, spanning over 40 days, on the road.
First, the Blue Hens travel to Rider on November 24 before heading to the Sunshine State for the University of Central Florida Tournament November 30-December 1. At UCF, Delaware will face SIU Edwardsville and either UCF or Howard. Howard, a 20-12 team in 2012-13, lost in the first round of the WNIT this past season.
Next up for UD will be a game at Princeton on December 15. The Tigers also saw NCAA Postseason action last year as they lost in the first round to Florida State.
Before a break for the holidays, Delaware will bus to Bethlehem, Pa. for a Lehigh University Tournament December 20-21. While there, the Blue Hens could face Vermont, Lehigh and Youngstown State. YSU advanced to the second round of the WNIT in 2012-13.
UD will close non-conference action on December 30 with a home match against St. John's. The Red Storm also saw postseason play as they lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Delaware will play 16 Colonial Athletic Association games this coming season, with the full slate to be announced in fall.
