NEWARK, Del. – Blue Hen senior Kori Reigel and redshirt sophomore Jill Meyers have been named 2013 University of Delaware volleyball team captains, UD head coach Bonnie Kenny has announced.
Reigel, a native of Morris Plains, N.J., appeared in all 30 matches while making 12 starts for the Blue Hens a year ago and was one of four Blue Hens to appear in all 109 sets. She ranked fourth on the team with 186 digs and 1.71 digs per set, and reached double figures in digs during five matches on the season. Reigel (left in photo) posted a career-high 17 digs during a five-set victory at George Mason on October 13, and also had 13 digs against Northeastern and Penn.
Myers, a Mission Viejo, Calif. native, appeared in 16 matches and 29 sets during her 2012 redshirt freshman season. She totaled 12 blocks, eight kills and five digs on the year, including a season-high three kills to go with a block during the Blue Hens' five-set win over Hofstra on October 20.
“Kori is more of a pitbull while Jill is more nurturing, so they complement each other well,” Kenny said. “Both players are willing to step up and hold their teammates accountable, and they create a culture that we want to represent in our program.”
The Blue Hens, who won 16 matches a year ago and advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament final, open their 2013 campaign on Friday with a 10:30 p.m. ET contest against the host Waves in the Pepperdine Asics Classic.
