PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The University of Delaware women's soccer team fell to Rutgers, 1-0 on a first half penalty kick Friday evening at Yurcak Field.
With 18:11 on the clock, Jonelle Filigno scored on a penalty shot to put the Scarlett Knights up, 1-0.
Delaware registered seven shots in the contest, but could not muster a comeback in the remaining 82 minutes of the game. Junior midfielder Allegra Gray notched two shots on goal for the Blue Hens.
Delaware enior goalkeeper Jessica Levy tallied a game high five saves in the loss.
“Tonight's game was a pleasure to watch for the fans and coaches alike," said Delaware head coach Scott Grzsenda. "We played very well and created the opportunities we've been working on in practice. Penalty kicks are a part of the game but it's a shame they sometimes determine the outcome.”
