Reed's OT Score Leads Delaware to Win Over Seattle

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware men's soccer team won its second consecutive contest Sunday at Delaware Mini-Stadium as Blue Hen senior Evan Reed scored late in the first overtime period to knock off Seattle, 3-2.
With just 1:30 remaining in overtime, Kyle Nuel located Reed off a corner kick and the senior found the back of the net off a perfectly placed header to set off the Delaware victory celebration.
Ian HennessySeattle scored the first goal of the contest less than three minutes into the first half, but 8:58 later freshman Guillermo Delgado scored his third goal in two games to tie the game at one apiece. The first Blue Hen tally was assisted by Jaime Martinez and Roberto Gimenez.
At the 20:50 mark of the first half, Delaware was awarded a penalty kick after a Redhawk foul and senior defender Prince Nartey successfully executed the kick to put the Hens up 2-1.
Seattle came back to tie the contest with 21:44 remaining in the second half to force the overtime period.
Hen Scratchings
· Delgado has now scored three goals in his first two contests at Delaware
· Gimenez has now tallied three assists in two games
· Evan Reed recorded his first career game-winning goal
· Prince Nartey's score was his first goal of the season. He registered his first penalty kick score as a Blue Hen
· Nuel dished out his first assist of the season against the Redhawks (5th career)
· The Blue Hens return to action Friday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. against Manhattan
