Blue Hens Earn Exciting 2-1 Victory Over Temple to Stay Unbeaten at Home

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men's soccer team earned its fifth straight victory at Delaware Mini-Stadium Tuesday evening beating the Temple University Owls, 2-1. Freshman midfielder Jaime Martinez led the Blue Hens with a goal and an assist to register the first multi-point performance of his career.
All three goals of the evening's contest were scored within 1:51 in the first half. Temple registered the first opening-tally in the 12th minute of game when Chas Wilson scored his first goal of the season. The Blue Hens responded quickly with a goal of their own 24 seconds later when captain Mark Garrity blasted a shot from seven yards out passed the Temple keeper after passes from Jaime Martinez and Guillermo Delgado. The goal marks the first of Garrity's senior campaign.
It would be Martinez who scored the game-winning goal for Delaware on a header in the 14th minute of play after a perfectly executed corner kick from Prince Nartey. Martinez has now notched two goals and two assists this season while Nartey has passed out three helpers.
Ian HennessyThe Blue Hens are now 5-1-0 on the season while Temple falls to 4-2-0. The last time Delaware opened its schedule 5-0 at home was during the1985 season.
